Songs for a New World
2007
A challenging and heartfelt musical by the award winning composer,
JASON ROBERT BROWN
AUGUSTINE’S, EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL AUGUST 2007
Its about one moment: strive forward or turn and go back? Songs for a New World explores a
myriad of human emotion and physical struggle, transporting the audience on an epic journey
from the deck of Columbus’ Spanish sailing ship in 1492 right through to the present day.
Traditionally a four-hander, Russell Hope (Assistant Director of the Kings Head Theatre,
London) directs a talented cast of seven, injecting new energy to create a refreshing
production of this cult musical.
Augustine’s Sanctuary provides a unique environment, both visually and acoustically, which
perfectly showcases Brown’s original and iconic Broadway hit.
Heavily influenced by a broad
range of musical genres, including pop, jazz and classics, Songs for a New World takes the
audience on a journey far farther than first meets the eye.
