(previews start on Nov. 1; opens on Nov. 16) A medieval colossus bestriding Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Tamburlaine, the hero of this Christopher Marlowe drama, is a role that requires a regal, imposing actor. Luckily, Theater for a New Audience just happens to have John Douglas Thompson on hand. He and more than a dozen other actors will attempt this Elizabethan epic, under the sway of Michael Boyd, former Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director.
