On the fourth of August, 100 years ago Britain declared war on Germany. The play juxtaposes jolly music hall routines, song and comedy with stark projections of life in the trenches. Real songs from WW1 cheerfully condemn bloody slaughter while harsh images of war and shocking statistics remind us of the scale of the horror, pity and waste of human life. I could not recommend this production more. Its hilarious. Its heartbreaking. Its imaginative and expertly produced (EdFringeReview 2012). We're honoured to present this iconic piece in the centenary of the outbreak of WW1.
