Bundle up for the cold-weather version of the annual summer Make Music New York festival. This year's lineup on the winter solstice features an eclectic array of experimental, audience participatory parades in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. Highlights include "Bell by Bell" on Avenue of the Americas; Appalachian folk dancing in Flatbush; a High Line Soundwalk in which footsteps are rendered into unusual sounds via a smartphone app; a Kalimba (thumb piano) parade in North Brooklyn; a bagpipe procession in Long Island City; a Parranda con Paranda caroling session in the Bronx; lantern-illuminated medieval melodies through Central Park en route to Cathedral of St. John the Divine; multiple incarnations of the Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in Dumbo; Terry Riley's "In C" in the West Village; and the baritone Christopher Dylan Herbert's version of Schubert's "Winterreise" at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
