Over the years the conductor Will Crutchfield has made the Bel Canto at Caramoor program a high point of summer festival music in the New York region. Performances are presented at the bucolic Caramoor estate in northern Westchester County, where picnicking on the grounds before concerts is popular. The Bel Canto series opens on July 12 with the first of two concert performances of this musically gripping, vocally challenging opera by Donizetti. The impressive soprano Angela Meade, who excited audiences at the Metropolitan Opera last season in the title role of Bellini's "Norma," will sing Lucrezia, and the enticing cast includes Tamara Mumford and Michele Angelini. Mr. Crutchfield conducts. Other programs coming up are the Dover Quartet on July 11 and a bel canto showcase, featuring the bass-baritone Daniel Mobbs, on July 17.
