Sculpting a uniquely defined path, Katharine Ryan's brand of comedy is savvy but approachable as she rattles through a highly professional set with interestingly innovative content, ranging from her health woes through to a love of lemons.
The audience soon became putty in Ryan's hand as she commanded the stage with her warming persona and togetherness. Witty, insight-fuelled commentary is Ryan's second-nature, as she rolls through apt descriptions of her posh, idiotic North London neighbours. Her clever insights excel, as she quips freely about her medical condition, lupus, and the havoc it plays with her diet: 'Pringles? No thanks, I'm driving'.
The inevitable existential interlude sealed the deal as she quipped about not believing in God; Kanye West had something to do with the justification, so it’s not all just plain academia. Cheeky digs at a culture full of ignorant over-exclamations, of which West has been guilty, are pertinent when coming from the mouth of a well-known figure such as Ryan, who can contextualise and normalise her fame, unlike the aforementioned rapper.
Looking casual in converse and slacks, it’s Ryan’s ease that makes her such an enjoyable watch. Without the slightest hint of scripting she rolls off her gags exuding a genuine sense of enjoyment, bumping and grinding off the audience like a rock star at their homecoming.
Ryan is camera-ready, with appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats and Matt Le Blanc led series Episodes under her belt. A natural charmer, constantly smiling and battering punters with positivity, she's an adorable little Canadian ball of fun. Someone get her a visa, she can stay.
