Wagner's great comedy has long been one of James Levine's favorite scores, so it's no surprise he's including it as he returns to a fuller schedule after a long period of indisposition. This may be the last revival of the Metropolitan Opera's storybook "Meistersinger" production, originally directed by Otto Schenk, with sets by Gnther Schneider-Siemssen, and an excellent cast will see it out in style. The veteran bass James Morris sings Hans Sachs alongside Annette Dasch and Johan Botha, and Johannes Martin Krnzle, Paul Appleby, Hans-Peter Knig and Matthew Rose take supporting roles.
