Hanlin’s first full Fringe show is a clear success and I look forward to seeing what he brings next year.
As is common in Fringe magic shows, there’s an early setup for a big reveal later and several small routines that give Hanlin his chance to show why he’s a bona fide celebrity magician. The audience warm to him instantly and his easy manner with the volunteers he pulls onto the stage at Pleasance keeps the show rolling along at an entertaining pace.
It was strange that audience were somewhat sedate. On more than one occasion, I found myself leading the applause. Perhaps the tricks were too subtle or maybe the audience had come to expect minor miracles performed live on stage? Hanlin works hard though and is never afraid to let the audience know that it’s OK to be impressed.
Trickhead is a show by an accomplished magician and entertainer that will have you scratching your head as you laugh. Hanlin’s first full Fringe show is a clear success and I look forward to seeing what he brings next year.
