Labyrinth is a theatrical mashup of three Greek myths. Broadway Baby investigates.
The biggest challenge has been adapting the show from its original form, which was an immersive piece of theatre, to be able to inhabit one space and stage.

Labyrinth takes its audience into the depths of one of Hollywood’s lesser-known film studios of the 1950s, Labyrinth Studios. At a time where Hollywood was at its peak, our talented young cast utilise physical and storytelling theatre to weave together three Greek myths in a web of tantalising deceit to reveal the secrets, corruption and duplicity within.
A promising new starlet, Amy-Jean, may be the key to Mack Midas’ plan to overthrow established, yet declining actress Evelyn Ross. Mack enlists the help of seamstress Madge to fabricate Evelyn’s own personal underworld and draft the rise of Amy-Jean’s star persona, ‘Gloria Galatea’.
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
We believe that theSpace UK are the heart of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, providing a largely diverse programme, whilst offering some of the best venues at the festival. So we, as a theatre company, are incredibly lucky to be performing at one of their venues. It is such a great opportunity to perform our shows, which we are all incredibly proud of, in such a wonderful location.
Why Edinburgh? What’s the attraction?
Edinburgh is the largest arts festival in the world, with participants coming in from all over the globe. It’s such an awesome opportunity for young actors and performers, like our cast and crew, to bring and present work we believe in and excites us, in the hope that it excites and entertains others too. There’s such a variety of work on offer too, so if you’re willing to experience things you’ve never thought of before it’s an excellent place to come. However, we feel that our show is something that will appeal to a variety of different people and we can’t wait to share it with others.
What has been the biggest challenge in getting your show ready for Edinburgh?
The biggest challenge has been adapting the show from its original form, which was an immersive piece of theatre, to be able to inhabit one space and stage. It has also been tough, whilst adapting it, to try and keep the same aura and feeling of mystery and intrigue from our audience in the original production, whilst making them feel enclosed, involved and observers to the action. However, we are proud of what we are achieving and, although different from our original show, we have still created theatre that we enjoy, that intrigues us and keeps us performing.
Can you tell us a bit about your company’s background?
Green Stag Theatre are a group of directors, teachers, actors, designers and writers with roots in Chippenham, Wiltshire. We focus our efforts on building a diverse range of the arts for the local community and across the South West. We're an ambitious and dynamic young company, creating visceral and cutting edge devised work, new plays, re-imaginations of classics and re-discoveries of lost gems. Our work is theatrically rich, physical, provocative, resourceful, and colourful, featuring a range of the South West's finest young performers, aged 16-22 years. This year we are heading up to Edinburgh for the fifth time, taking two new devised pieces, O Glorious Youth! and the aforementioned Labyrinth, which involves cast members from wider regions of the South West.
