The Bluebelles are an all-female A Cappella group with a taste for jazz. They promise singing, solos and dancing to boot. Broadway Baby has a natter.
As a group we have never been stronger; our songs have been rehearsed to perfection and we want to perform somewhere that will give us and the audience an amazing experience.
Tell us about your show
We are an all-female 12 piece A Cappella group that specialize in jazz; we sing everything from Beyond the Sea to Taylor Swift’s Trouble, each song having a special jazz-twist to make it our own. Get Jazzy On It is a show of our favourite songs, all of which are original arrangements from the group. It’s going to be fabulous: full of amazing solos and dances, with a lot of fun and sass!
Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?
We are a relatively new group, having started at the University of Exeter only a couple of years ago, and have come incredibly far in such a short space of time. Therefore we wanted to challenge ourselves and go for something really big, which was when the Fringe came to mind. As a group we have never been stronger; our songs have been rehearsed to perfection and we want to perform somewhere that will give us and the audience an amazing experience.
Why Edinburgh? What’s the attraction?
Edinburgh is a fantastic location, and the Fringe makes it the most exciting place for us to be as a group of young performers. It’s got an incredible reputation that will stay with The Bluebelles for the rest of our lives; being able to say that we performed at the Fringe.
What makes your show unique amongst the thousands of others at the festival?
We give the audience something familiar yet different; any group of singers could sing the original of a song, but we manage to take contemporary songs and give them a new jazzy style, turning them into something catchy and unique that you won’t have heard before. This combined with the fact that we’re A Cappella, showing off the range and beauty of the human voice as it hasn’t been heard before, makes our show cute, jazzy and unforgettable.
How did you create your show?
We took the best songs we had created from the last couple of years, and rehearsed them in a Bluebelles Bootcamp, where we added choreography and also taught ourselves a few new songs we had arranged specifically for the Fringe. And with the help of the About Turn Theatre, an experienced company who are supporting our show in their 13th year of working at the Fringe, we feel we are completely ready for this performance!
If your show does well in Edinburgh, what do you want to do with it next?
We’re hoping to create an EP next year and more music videos, and would love to return to the Fringe again!
