That simple word opens up many possibilities throughout your solo journey through You Once Said Yes. Whether it is towards a lost tourist, a questioning student, or a shell-shocked war veteran, each time you say ‘yes’ throughout the (one at a time, promenade) performance you feel that you are legitimately helping somebody out. The fun part is every time you help out, they open up to you, and just by being polite and helpful, you find out more about their everyday lives, their hopes and dreams, and experience the adventure that is life. Despite the lack of apparent connectivity between the pieces (well, an argument could be made that the streets of Old Town are the connective tissue), they all come to a head at the end of the experience in a payoff where you finally realise that this piece is as much about you as it is about the performers. In relation to other site specific, promenade, or interactive theatre at the festival, You Once Said Yes is fun without being particularly challenging. Some sections trend towards being a bit chaotic or lugubrious, and, frankly, an overarching narrative never comes out. But for the sense of adventure and the final payoff alone, You Once Said Yes is worth the walk!
