Laughing Horse Comedy has launched its programme for the 2009 Brighton Fringe, where it will be producing 123 performances of 33 different shows at its venue, ‘Laughing Horse @ The Quadrant’ (Fringe venue 247).This is the first programme of Brighton Fringe shows for both the Laughing Horse and the Quadrant, a venue that adds a funky and intimate performance space to the Fringe, along with an exciting line-up of comedy events throughout the month.
The venue also aims to help people enjoy more good quality laughs for less money, in these days of recession and the credit crunch, by offering all of it’s shows at a great value price – all performances cost £5 or less, and many shows are free entry, following in the sprit of the Laughing Horse’s pioneering ‘Free Festival’, held annually as part of the Edinburgh Fringe.
Highlights of the Laughing Horse’s 2009 Brighton Fringe Programme include:
Earl Okin’s “Musical Genius & Sex Symbol”, which gives a rare chance to see a full hour of the legendary Earl Okin, mixing comedy and music as only he can. (May 13th to 17th, 18:30 – 19:30)
Travelling from San Francisco for the Fringe is Edinburgh Fringe veteran and award winner Lynn Ruth Miller, with her cabaret show “Ageing is Amazing” featuring Queenie the septuagenarian senile stripper and her comedic cabaret that explores the joys of ageing (May 2nd to 10th, 22:45 – 19:30)
Another show visiting from America is “Stand-Up Monkey Poet!” featuring the UK Fringe debut of Matthew Panesh’s award winning poetry from various North American Fringe Festivals. (May 23rd to 25th, 17:15 – 18:15)
Nik Coppin returns from the Adelaide and Melbourne Fringes, with his new solo show “Loquacious” (May 22nd – 23rd, 22:45 – 23:45) and also as compere of late-night comedy club “Shaggers”, (May 22nd to 23rd, 00:00 – 01:00) - a surprise hit from last year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
Every Thursday to Sunday night sees a top comedy club line-up from “The Laughing Horse Comedy Club” featuring a selection of top comedians from shows across the Fringe, plus special guests. (May 2nd – 25th, Thursday to Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, 21:00 – 22:30
Irish comedienne Eleanor Tiernan presents her new solo show “Trouble”, following on from her highly successful debut show at last years Edinburgh Fringe. (May 18th to 21st, 17:15)
There is Antipodean comedy too, with a new solo show, “Divorce: The Truth” from Kiwi comedian Kevin McCarron – a comic look at an issue that, according to statistics, touches the lives of more couples than it doesn’t (May 21st to 25th, 19:45 – 20:45), plus more comedy from the “Deadset Aussie Comedy Legends” Ro Campbell and Marcus Ryan (May 14th to 16th, 22:45 – 23:45)
There is hard-hitting, no-holds-barred comedy from duo “The Heresy Project”, following on from their Leicester Comedy festival sell-out run as part of their mission to eradicate all religion. (May 8th to 10th, 18:30 – 19:30)
Bob Boyton’s highly praised one-man play “Bomber Jackson Does Some” about alcohol, prison and the hope of a good breakfast. (May 16th – 17th, 16:00 – 17:00)

Laughing Horse Comedy produces comedy shows throughout the year, at venues around the UK, and also promotes comedy, theatre, music and Childrens shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, along with running several Edinburgh Fringe venue, which in 2008 hosted over 2,600 performances of 158 shows.
