Once upon a time at the Edinburgh Festival, a pretty young girl named Sarah Bennetto wanted to reclaim the late night shows from drunken debauchery and low brow skulduggery, so she created The Storytellers' Club.

Set in the delightfully bohemian surroundings of Baraka on Infirmary Street, The Storytellers' Club has only one rule - performers must tell stories. This means that the changing roster can throw anything at you from comic tales, ghost stories, impassioned rants and, of course, the odd love story.

With a strong line up of talent every night from the likes of James Dowdeswell, Tom Bell and Will Hodgson you are guaranteed a good show. But the undeniable star of the show is the scintillating storyteller who is our hostess, narrator and raconteur, Sarah Benneto. Her stories and anecdotes are particularly funny (ask her about the time her father tried to pimp her for some more land).

Unlike other late night shows, The Storytellers' Club is a more sedate affair, and it's tricky to maintain energy levels all the way through to the 2.30am finish. Perhaps a shuffle to the running order would help, putting the punchier storytellers later in the set. Overall, a charming show and possibly a magical haven of intelligent comedy. [Terry Gilliland]
