Nottingham Youth Dance was created to provide young dancers from the East Midlands with additional training and performance opportunities and to develop the level and quality of dance training. It is now in its third season and, on the basis of this production, more than meeting its expectations.

The production begins with Dancefloor Rhapsody, a free-flowing, thrilling dance featuring three male and three female dancers. The next dance is The Green Scarf, in which all the dancers are wearing white wigs and have white faces and black lips, indicating justice (or perhaps injustice). The dance explores acts of betrayal, insecurity and fear and is dedicated to all those strong enough to keep going regardless of adversity.

Other dances include The Perfect Match, which is about being led by the feet on a journey to find the perfect pair of shoes. Glass Sealing was inspired by the work of the artist Dale Chihuly. Finding Plan B is about losing the way and finding it again. The final piece is Shifting Control, which starts with six dancers on stage and finishes with the whole cast demonstrating their dance skills. [Alan Chorley]
