An interesting, fast-paced version of Macbeth from a young American cast.

Aaron Berg Presents Macbeth
(2007)
The Stanford Shakespeare Society
Understairs @ Royal Scots Club, 3-27 August (not 13, 20) 18:40pm (1hr15).
This performance is by a group of students from Stanford University in California. It is played in modern dress but uses the original Shakespearean verse. There are only six actors so each has to play multiple characters, with the except of the lead actor who remains throughout as Macbeth. The character changes are done quickly, either offstage or onstage by changing jackets and throwing the discarded clothes into a chest. Actors who have just performed in one role but are not involved in the current scene stand at the back or side of the stage facing away from the audience.
The action is highly-paced throughout with barely a pause for breath but the story remains clear and focused. The use of the same actors in multiple parts means that some concentration is required on the part of the audience, but it is an interesting production that grips the audience right to the end.
