Co-founder of the Patter theatre company, Melanie Wilson, brings one-woman play to the Fringe.
Simple Girl (2007)
Melanie Wilson
Smirnoff Baby Belly Caves. August 2-26 (not 15). 16:45 (55min).
London-based performer, writer and sound artist Melanie Wilson will this year bring to the Edinburgh Festival her one-woman play Simple Girl, a collection of eccentric tales, dark confessions and touchingly wry humour woven together on stage to form a wonderfully original and intimate performance.
Accompanying herself on laptop and sampler, Melanie’s mischievous character and growing audaciousness combine with an increasingly unpredictable soundtrack. When stepping away from the microphone she shares a uniquely personal relationship with the audience, who find themselves drawn in to becoming her confidantes, playmates and occasionally her prey.
Taking form during the LabCulture London sound residency in 2004, Simple Girl was developed through 2005 in performances at Resonance FM, Live 05 at The Chelsea Theatre, Burst festival at BAC and the Spice festival and Life Affirming Joyride Festival at The Hackney Empire. It has gone on to appear at the Latitude music festival, Turtle Salon at Chelsea Art Space, the Shunt Vaults and Galapagos Art Space in New York.
