Broadway Baby is one of the largest independent review media who cover the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. As well as publication on this website and in our own print edition, Broadway Baby reviews are syndicated on iFringe, edfringe.com and by the FMN links exchange.
We are a founder member of the Festival Media Network, which promotes high standards in the media coverage of festivals.
Broadway Baby reviewers have gone on to successful careers in show business as well as journalism. We have alumni at the BBC, the New York Times, The Scotsman, BroadwayWorld and Impressive PR. Current writers include active theatre designers, directors and producers as well as an abundance of actors and scriptwriters.
We are always on the look out for volunteer reviewers with:
- practical experience of fringe performance (acting, producing, lighting, writing...),
- or significant experience in arts journalism.
Successful applicants will have:
- an excellent writing style,
- high levels of personal responsibility
- and critical acumen.
How to Apply
Please email your CV and at least two review samples to editor@broadwaybaby.com.
Your review samples don't have to have been published, but if your samples are hosted online, please send a link. Ideally, you will submit at least one positive and one negative review and the reviews will have star ratings.
In your covering email, please list the genres you want to write about, and detail the experience that qualifies you to do so.
London Reviewers
Broadway Baby is launching coverage of the London fringe scene in February 2012.
We're accepting reviewers on a rolling basis. Unlike the madness associated with festivals, London reviewing is a much calmer business. Your commitment need only be as little as one show a month, or one a week if you want to see more. You choose the types of show you want to see, and we'll arrange your tickets to the press night.
Brighton Reviewers
Broadway Baby will be covering the Brighton Fringe in May this year. The provisional deadline for applications is midnight on April the 5th.
If you are participating in the Festival, then we will work around your existing commitments. You will probably be expected to see around one show a day, although this is totally flexible.
Edinburgh Reviewers
Broadway Baby covers the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August every year. We will be open for applications for reviewing, editorial and management positions nearer the time.
Edinburgh is an intense environment for the reviewer. Due to the sheer numbers of shows involved, in exchange for your press pass and VIP privileges, we'll expect you to see between 2-3 shows per day, depending on your own commitments at the Fringe. In 2011 our team consisted of 60 reviewers, so we need people not only with excellent writing skills, but who are also self-motivated and work well under pressure. That said, writing for one of the largest publications at the Festival can be immensely rewarding.
